By Henry Samuel , Paris. The French version of reality show Farmer Wants a Wife is to feature its first gay candidate, breaking a taboo in the largely conservative, patriarchal world of Gallic agriculture. He is the first gay candidate among more than who have appeared on the programme in the past nine years on terrestrial channel M6. He took over the family business when his father died last year. Two years ago, presenter Karine Le Marchand said she would have “loved” to have a gay farmer in the cast but that the lack of candidates suggested that “the cameras don’t only spark good will” — suggesting the country was not ready for it.
That was when France was in the throes of a heated national debate over legalising gay marriage, including mass demonstrations against the law, which was nonetheless passed.
Karine Le Marchand met the 14 single farmers, made up of 2 women and 12 men from around mainland France and, for the first time, Reunion Island, UFA Show & Factual produces a new dating show for RTL Television.

Farmer wants a wife: Sara Cox hosts TV dating show with a difference
What did the inhabitants of New France eat? This is a significant question, considering the importance of the culinary arts in French culture today, particularly since UNESCO recently classed French cuisine as a world heritage resource. We are well aware of the importance of many indigenous American vegetables in our daily fare, vegetables first cultivated by Aboriginal peoples: potatoes, corn, squash… But did the first colonists immediately embrace foods that were entirely new to them?
The French, in fact, found an interest in local food resources as soon as they arrived in North America. They incorporated into their diet wild game, birds, and fish, as well as native edible plants, yet they returned to growing vegetables and cereal crops and raising European livestock as soon as they could. They could not do without bread, lard, beef, fare that even today occupies an important place in the menus of their descendants.

JaclynLDunham Contact. TORONTO — With many restaurants closed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Canadian farmers have been forced to freeze nearly million pounds of potatoes destined to become french fries because there is no one to buy them. We were having a pretty good year in terms of pricing, in terms of demand. While sales of potato chips and fresh potatoes that are sold in grocery stores have actually seen an increase in sales as Canadians spend more time preparing food at home, MacIsaac said the problem lies with all of the potatoes grown specifically for french fries.
To add to their woes, potato producers have been struggling to find enough freezer space to store their excess crops. If there is not enough freezer space, MacIsaac said producers will try to delay processing the potatoes into french fries for as long as they can or divert them as many as they can into fresh potatoes for grocery stores. To avoid food waste, growers donate to food banks in most provinces, but MacIsaac said the logistics of packaging and transporting large volumes of potatoes can be challenging in these already difficult times.

For the past six weeks, on BBC Two’s Love in the Countryside , we have been following the romantic journeys of eight single farmers on the hunt to find a partner they can share their rural lives with. It’s been a rollercoaster ride for the lonely hearts, with some potential partnerships falling at the first hay bale — like Franny who, during a group date with dairy farmer Peter, decided that the life of a farmer’s wife just wasn’t for her. I’m coming in to be his parter, his equal [ So Peter was left with two out of the three potential matches he had invited back to his farm, Helen and Caroline.
But, when it come down to it, it was year-old IT consultant Helen that caught his eye and emotionally accepted Peter’s offer to continue dating. Following their weekend on Peter’s farm in Yorkshire, Peter visited Helen in her home town of Chesterfield where he met her family and got to know her way of life. With the flirting stepping up a notch, kisses being shared and their romance seemingly flourishing, the next stop for Peter and Helen was the south of France , where they could get to know each other away from home.

Controversial French comedian Dieudonne M’bala M’bala has been detained by police for a Facebook comment appearing to back Paris gunman Amedy Coulibaly. His is one of dozens of cases opened by authorities in a crackdown on condoning or threatening terrorism. Justice Minister Christiane Taubira said words of hatred and contempt had to be fought with the “utmost vigour”.
Dieudonne already has convictions for inciting anti-Semitism and the courts banned several one-man shows last year. A judicial source quoted by AFP news agency said he was due to be released on Wednesday evening but would face trial at a later date. The justice ministry said earlier that 54 cases had been opened since the murders of 17 people in Paris last week. Of those, 37 cases involved condoning terrorism and 12 were for threatening to carry out terrorist acts.
Some fast-track custodial sentences have already been handed down under anti-terror legislation passed last November. The justice minister said prosecutors should act firmly and quickly against anyone found condoning terrorism or carrying out racist or anti-Semitic acts. Dieudonne is already facing an inquiry into whether he condoned terrorism in a video in which he mocked the decapitation of US journalist James Foley by Islamic State militants.

A rough approximation of the best areas to see the lavender fields. The map here will give you a general idea of the best areas. And they sell many lavender products too, having a range of their own natural cosmetics and essential oils. A classic Provence photo opportunity at Notre-Dame de Senanque. It is a Cistercian abbey near the spectacular hilltop village of Gordes in Vaucluse-en-Provence.
The Abbey was founded in by Cistercian monks and is a interesting and rewarding visit all by itself, made all the more rewarding by its position in a lovely valley and by the acres of gorgeous lavender that surround it. Be warned that though almost every photo of the abbey during lavender season shows it miraculously devoid of tourists, the reality is somewhat different. Sites aside, if you sadly!
Being at a medium altitude its fields are generally harvested slightly later than most of the Luberon; in late July. Valensole is as charming and lovely as any village in Provence, with or without its surrounding lavender fields , and a great place to base yourself for a few days. This is among the highest, and coolest, areas of the Luberon and so its fields are harvested the latest , mid August in most cases. It opens all year, and does its own range of organic essential oils.
